With just 28,576 miles and
having enjoyed sole family ownership from new, this second-generation Subaru
Brat is a particularly unusual survivor. Supplied new by Motorhouse Prestbury
Ltd of Cheltenham in March 1992, it has spent much of its life on the family
farms of South Wales before entering the current ownership in
2022.
The Brat has seen very little
use over the years and, as a result, remains a notably solid example. Unlike
many that have suffered a hard working life, this one does not appear to have
been battered or extensively affected by corrosion, although some minor
mechanical works and cosmetic improvement would now benefit the vehicle
following its period in storage.
Power comes from Subaru's
familiar 1.8-litre EA81 four-cylinder boxer engine, driving all four wheels
through a four-speed manual gearbox.
The history file includes the
V5C showing four former keepers, the original owner's pack and service book
containing seven stamps, including the pre-delivery inspection. The last
recorded service was in October 2002 at 25,433 miles, shortly before the Brat
was placed into storage.
Further documentation includes
invoices, including a £402 expenditure in 2018 for an MOT and four part-worn
tyres, together with two previous MOT certificates. The latest MOT is valid
until February 2027 and recorded no advisories.
The car is supplied
with a replacement bonnet and a spare seat, allowing the new owner to use the
necessary parts to repair the driver's seat.
The Brat starts,
drives and stops and was moved around site for photography and filming. With its
exceptionally low mileage, long-term family history and unusual four-wheel-drive
pick-up configuration, this is a charming and increasingly rare Japanese classic
with plenty of character and considerable potential.
