A striking and highly
distinctive take on Porsche’s iconic 911, this 1987 example is finished in Black
with a Red and Black leather interior and powered by the 3,164cc flat-six engine
coupled to a five-speed manual transmission.
First registered in
April 1987, the Porsche has had just six former keepers, with the current owner
acquiring the car in October 1994 and retaining it for over 32
years.
Originally supplied by Porsche
as a Targa, the vendor informs us that the car was converted from Targa to
Cabriolet at the same time as it was converted to its Flatnose specification.
This work was carried out in Germany in 1989, at a reported cost of just under
£26,000, a considerable sum at the time.
Unfortunately, the dealer who
had the car offered for sale prior to its entry into auction subsequently went
into liquidation and the invoice relating to this conversion was
lost.
The conversion incorporated
the distinctive Wide Vision Super Sport/Flatnose styling, including steel rear
wings, giving the car a particularly purposeful and imposing presence on the
road.
The car currently shows 45,161
miles, which appears to be supported by the available MOT history, with only
around 10,000 miles recorded over the past 32 years.
The accompanying
history includes the handbook, nine old MOT certificates, seven service stamps
and a selection of invoices detailing work carried out over the
years.
Of particular note is an
invoice from April 2021 showing expenditure of £24,000 on a repaint, new hood
and full recommissioning, demonstrating the considerable investment made in the
car.
The vendor advises that the
Porsche was running just a few weeks before delivery to us. Unfortunately,
despite our efforts, we have been unable to get the car running while on
site.
The injectors are receiving
fuel and the engine will start and run briefly when Easy Start is introduced,
suggesting that the issue may be with the injector supply rather than the engine
itself. We understand that an aftermarket immobiliser may be interrupting the
injector supply, although this has not been confirmed and further investigation
will be required.
An unusual and highly
individual 911, combining its original Targa specification with a Cabriolet
conversion and distinctive Wide Vision Super Sport/steel Flatnose styling. With
over three decades of ownership, apparently modest mileage, significant
expenditure in recent years and an interesting history surrounding its 1989
conversion in Germany, this striking Porsche offers an intriguing opportunity
for the enthusiast.
