limited slip
differential; Alcon Racing braking system; professionally installed weld-in T45
roll cage; understood to produce around 300bhp
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine BMW E36 M3 Saloon
professionally prepared for stage rallying, rather than a standard E36 converted
using M3 running gear. This genuine four-door M3 was prepared by Coltech Rally
Services of Church Stretton, with the quality of workmanship and attention to
detail evident throughout.
Finished in striking
Hellrot Red, the car was repainted during its preparation to address the lacquer
peel commonly associated with this colour. It now presents in exceptional
condition throughout and is arguably almost too nicely finished to subject to
the rigours of competitive rallying.
The original
3.0-litre M3 engine remains largely standard for reliability, although it has
been mapped and is understood to produce around 300bhp. Shortly before the
current owner acquired the car, the bottom end was rebuilt with new big-end
bearing shells and upgraded ARP rod bolts.
Power
is transmitted through a ZF five-speed gearbox to a 4.1-ratio limited slip
differential, providing the acceleration and directness expected of a properly
prepared competition car.
The competition
specification includes a professionally installed weld-in T45 roll cage, which
has been inspected and passed through Motorsport UK scrutineering, Bilstein PSS9
suspension with custom height adjustment, an Alcon Racing braking system with
competition pads and a carbon-fibre hydraulic handbrake.
Inside, the beautifully fabricated and aluminium-panelled competition
interior houses Cobra competition seats and harnesses, fitted new when the car
was built, with just under seven years understood to remain on their dates. A
Motorsport UK Vehicle Passport was issued approximately 18 months
ago.
The Alcon braking system deserves particular
mention, with the vendor describing it as the most impressive braking setup he
has experienced on any car.
Road registered with
a V5C and accompanied by the private registration M300 MDS, the car has a
current MOT and is ready for use. It is currently presented on standard road
wheels, making road use and transportation particularly straightforward. A
selection of useful spares is also included, including spare brake
pads.
Proven on Stage
Since completion, this M3 has contested one rally at Anglesey,
principally as a shakedown to establish that everything was operating correctly.
Driven with mechanical sympathy and with preservation in mind, it nevertheless
achieved an excellent result and demonstrated that the car is both extremely
quick and genuinely competitive. It is now understood to
be fully sorted, correctly documented and ready to return to
competition.
Genuine E36 M3 rally cars,
particularly four-door examples retaining their correct identity and
documentation, are rarely offered. With professional preparation by Coltech
Rally Services, approximately 300bhp, dog-engagement transmission, Alcon brakes,
Motorsport UK documentation and exceptional presentation, M300 MDS represents a
highly desirable ready-to-use competition car for the enthusiast looking for
something considerably more special than a converted road
car.
Reason for Sale
The car is being offered only because the vendor's ongoing spinal and
back problems make further rallying increasingly unrealistic. This is therefore
a reluctant sale of a car that has been prepared without compromise and
subsequently maintained in outstanding condition.
