The Austin Mini Traveller was introduced in
the 1960s as the practical, estate-bodied counterpart to the iconic Mini saloon,
combining the car’s compact dimensions and nimble handling with increased
carrying capacity. Its distinctive extended rear body and timber-framed rear
section have made it one of the most recognisable and desirable Mini
derivatives.
Manufactured in 1968, this charming
Traveller is finished in its original Tartan Red and retains its completely
original interior. Having had just three owners from new, it benefits from
excellent provenance and a well-documented history.
Delivered new by Stour Valley Motors Ltd. of Stourbridge, the Mini
retains its original registration number and has spent virtually its entire life
in the Stourbridge and Kidderminster area. The vendor has enjoyed it for some 47
years, using it for school runs, family outings and countless classic car shows
and Mini meets. Its colourful history even includes being stolen in 1987, before
being recovered from West Bromwich after running out of
fuel!
In 2003, the Mini underwent a comprehensive
restoration, including a full exterior and interior respray in its original
Tartan Red, a thorough engine refresh and brand-new timberwork. It has continued
to attend shows and Mini meets ever since, with an extensive collection of
photographs, receipts and invoices documenting the work carried
out.
The Mini remains in great order with no
major imperfections to note, while the original interior has the feel of a
genuine time capsule. It has been kept indoors in a heated and dehumidified
garage during the vendor’s ownership and is offered for sale only due to a
family bereavement.
In summary, a highly
characterful and desirable Mini Traveller combining excellent provenance,
extensive history and a wonderful family story. Offered with two substantial
history folders and photographic albums, this is surely one for the keen Mini
enthusiast.
