Introduced in 1953, the Morris Minor Van was developed as
a practical commercial derivative of the much-loved Minor, combining its
familiar styling and proven mechanicals with a useful enclosed load area.
Popular with tradesmen and businesses, the van became a familiar sight on
Britain’s roads and is now a highly appealing and characterful
classic.
With its compact dimensions, charming
appearance and unmistakable Minor styling, surviving examples have become
increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts
alike.
Manufactured in 1960, this incredibly
smart Morris Minor Van has had just three owners from new and displaying just
48,357 miles. As can be seen from the accompanying photographs, the van has been
subject to a thorough and well-documented restoration, having been retrieved
from a lock-up garage in somewhat more average condition.
Invoices and photographs on file show that the van received a full
body restoration and repaint in 2019, at a cost of £4,740. This appears to have
been money well spent, with the paintwork still presenting in excellent
condition today and no major imperfections to note. Finished in the original
grey, the colour suits the Minor's charming lines particularly
well.
The work undertaken was far more than
cosmetic, with further invoices detailing a fully reconditioned engine using the
original unit, together with a reconditioned flywheel, three-part clutch and
gearbox, at a combined cost of £1,710. The carburettor was also professionally
rebuilt at a cost of £260 with a new radiator and fuel tank also supplied.
Running and driving as one would expect of a
cherished passion project, this very smart Morris Minor Van combines low
ownership, a substantial and documented restoration, and excellent supporting
history to create a highly desirable classic commercial.
