Description
First registered in 1964, this highly
unusual Land Rover Series IIA is a genuine former General Post Office (GPO)
vehicle and represents a fascinating piece of British industrial and
telecommunications history. Particularly appealing is the fact that it once
again wears the original GPO registration number that it carried when new,
having been reunited with the vehicle in 2009.
Historical records show that between
1969 and 1993 the Land Rover was registered as 142 FUF, then PRX 67B until 2009
when its original GPO number was successfully reissued. Today, it stands as an
authentic and increasingly rare survivor from the era when Land Rovers formed an
important part of the GPO fleet.
Showing 21,385 miles, the vehicle is equipped
with both a desirable safari roof and a tilt roof with frame, offering
flexibility for use and display. The current V5C records just seven former
keepers, suggesting relatively few custodians over its
lifetime.
Importantly, this is not a static exhibit. The
Land Rover has been in regular weekly use and was driven to the sale by the
vendor. It started readily on site during the photography and filming process
and has continued to perform well. Further reassurance is provided by its
advisory-free MOT, valid until August 2027. Fitted with overdrive and free-wheel
front hubs. The vendor advises they are all working and the vendor topped up the
oil in the overdrive about a fortnight ago and reports he uses it regularly
above 30 mph.
The comprehensive history file includes the
V5C, copies of old-style log books, a copy of the original buff log book, 11
previous MOT certificates, photographs and two folders containing a substantial
quantity of invoices and supporting documentation accumulated throughout the
vehicle's life.
With its genuine GPO provenance, original
registration number, extensive history file and usable condition, this charming
Series IIA represents a rare opportunity to acquire a real slice of British Post
Office history. Ready to be enjoyed, shown or preserved, it offers character,
authenticity and practical classic Land Rover ownership in equal
measure.
