Description
Restored in 2002 with much additional work carried out in 2005; many
new parts; various subtle upgrades; working overdrive; driven to the sale from
Hereford
First registered in September
1976, this MGB Roadster comes with a large file of invoices back to the
mid-1990s to show regular upkeep over the last three
decades.
In 2002 it was sent to
Edinburgh Sports Cars for a fairly major overhaul which cost over £7,000. This
included repairs to the bodywork as required followed by a repaint in blue plus
much mechanical work, all documented in invoices and photos on file.
In 2005 it went back to Edinburgh Sports Cars where another £5,200
was spent on a full respray in Inca Yellow along with various upgrades to the
running gear – full brake system overhaul with stainless steel hoses; lowered
and uprated suspension; new clutch kit; Kenlowe fan; HS6 carbs; crankshaft oil
seal; performance exhaust manifold and stainless steel exhaust; new soft top etc
(see photos for a full list).
Rolling road tuned, there are
a couple of undated dyno sheets showing 92.3bhp and 98.4 lb/ft of torque
(factory figures were 85bhp and 100 lb/ft).
In 2006 it was acquired by a
Leominster gent who was to keep it for the next 18 years, a note on file stating
that he fitted a new fuel tank and fuel pump, old MOTs showing that the car
covered around 12,000 miles from 2006 – 2019. When he passed away the car was
sold via Brightwells in April last year at which point it was in need of light
recommissioning following a period in storage.
Our vendor bought
the car at that auction and has got it back in roadworthy condition.
Driven to the auction from Hereford, we are told that it always
starts easily and runs well, with working overdrive. It has been starting
promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site.
Our vendor has now inherited a much older MGB from his father and
does not have room to store them both, hence its appearance in this sale.
As you can see in the photos, this well-historied and subtly uprated
Roadster looks to be in good shape for a 50-year-old and now seeks an
enthusiastic new owner who can reap the rewards of all the work carried out to
date.
