Yellow and White; 1957 Ford F100 Panel Van; first registered in the UK in
November 2020 following its importation from California and is powered by a 351
Windsor V8 engine paired with automatic transmission
Built at Ford's San Jose plant, the
van spent much of its life in California before being imported to the UK in
2020. Since arrival it has had just two UK owners and has been dry
stored.
An
appealing running restoration project, the F100 has benefited from a substantial
program of mechanical recommissioning. Works carried out include an engine oil
and filter service, new spark plugs and ignition leads, replacement timing
chain, cylinder heads removed, inspected, pressure tested and skimmed where
required, together with new gaskets, a new auxiliary belt, thermostat and
upgraded radiator and hoses.
The electrical system has been fully rewired
with the addition of a fuse box, while a replacement wiper motor imported from
the USA has been fitted along with upgraded LED lighting front and
rear.
The
braking system has also received significant attention, with new brake lines
fitted throughout, replacement wheel cylinders installed where required and a
new master cylinder fitted.
A major attraction of this example is its
Californian provenance. Having spent its life in a dry climate before
importation and subsequently been dry stored in the UK, the body is understood
to be solid and requiring no welding. The van was repainted by a previous owner
following its arrival in the UK and has also been fitted with new front and rear
bumpers, the striking Yellow and White colour scheme complementing its classic
1950s styling.
The interior retains much of its original
character, including the original dashboard, gauges and associated fittings,
while the bench seat was retrimmed after importation. It also retains its
original wooden rear load floor. The previous owner had boarded and carpeted the
rear, although this has since been removed to reveal the vehicle's condition and
return it closer to its original configuration. Several interior panels
accompany the van but are currently unfitted, allowing the next owner to
continue the restoration, return it to a more original specification or create a
distinctive custom build.
The vendor advises that the van starts, runs
and drives and is offered as an ongoing restoration project.
Showing 62,510 miles, this
charismatic and increasingly rare 1950s American Ford combines a solid
Californian body, desirable 351 Windsor V8 power and extensive mechanical,
electrical and braking work already completed, offering an excellent opportunity
for further improvement and enjoyment.
