First registered on 13th January 1938, this
Rover 10 P1 is an appealing example of Rover's pre-war saloon, powered by the
1,344cc four-cylinder petrol engine and carrying chassis number
801700.
The car is understood to have been family
owned since 1978, representing an unusually long period of ownership for a car
of this age. The accompanying history includes an original handbook together
with a small selection of photographs.
Of
particular interest is evidence that the Rover took part in the Grand Radio
Norfolk Old Car Rally in around 1961, providing a fascinating glimpse into its
life as a historic vehicle more than six decades ago.
Finished in blue, the car presents in a suitably patinated condition,
with the paintwork showing the marks and signs of age expected of an 88-year-old
vehicle. The blue leather interior is similarly aged but retains plenty of
period character. Equipped with trafficators, hinged windscreen, sunroof, there
are now 84,710 miles showing.
The Rover has been
started and driven while on site, and during our time with it the engine
appeared to tick over as it should, although is unlikely to have been used
regularly in recent years. The bodywork is marked in places, as can be seen in
the photos, but this is consistent with its age.
The car is MoT exempt and comes with a current-style V5C registration
document.
A charming and increasingly uncommon
pre-war Rover, with long-term ownership. An honest, usable example that would
make an excellent addition to a collection of pre-war British
cars.
