Replaced engine and gearbox in the late 1990s; presented in Caspian
Blue; showing just over 79,000 miles; runs and drives but may need some
re-commissioning for the road; dateless plate comes with the
car
First registered in 1985, this Range Rover was
originally fitted with the 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine. In around 1998 it
underwent a significant mechanical conversion, with a 2.5-litre 300Tdi diesel
engine and automatic gearbox installed by a 4x4 specialist.
The
conversion is supported by a receipt on file for £6,804, together with numerous
other invoices relating to maintenance and upgrades over the years. The 300Tdi
is a well-established conversion for the Classic, although it does naturally
mean the vehicle is no longer to its original specification.
The car is finished in Caspian Blue and retains the character of the
early five-door Range Rover. It comes with the desirable dateless registration
RWP 205, for which a written valuation of £2,500 is included in the history
file.
The accompanying documentation includes
numerous previous MOT certificates, providing useful evidence of its relatively
sparing use over the years, together with an original Range Rover owner's manual
and repair operation manual. The last MOT was carried out in 2018, when the
vehicle showed 77,000 miles.
Unfortunately, owing
to the advancing age and ill health of the most recent keeper, the Range Rover
has been stored for the last few years. It does start, although we would
recommend a thorough mechanical inspection and recommissioning following its
period of storage.
The bodywork has various areas
requiring attention, as shown in the photographs, including damage to one of the
rear light units. Four tyres are amongst the upgrades documented in the
accompanying invoices from 2019.
Now both tax and
MoT exempt, this is an interesting and useable-specification Range Rover Classic
with the sought-after combination of the five-door body, 300Tdi diesel and
automatic transmission. It represents a straightforward recommissioning project
with a substantial history file and the added interest of the valuable dateless
registration.
