Know Hillclimb car from
the early 2000s; 4 Former Keepers; 1558cc Lotus Twin Cam; 4-Speed Manual; First
Registered August 1970; Non-runner; complete with a Completion Log Book;

Currently owned since November
1988, this Lotus Elan has clearly been in the same enthusiast’s hands for a
remarkable period and is now offered from a deceased estate. The car is
understood to have been out of competition for around 20 years and has been
stored for a considerable period.
Presented in competition
specification, it is equipped with a roll cage, five-point harness, foam-filled
alloy fuel tank and fire extinguisher. A competition car logbook accompanies the
car, together with substantial history files and a large quantity of invoices
documenting work carried out over the years.
Of particular
interest is a rolling-road chart showing the car producing an impressive 163bhp
at 6,800rpm. Given the length of time the car has been inactive, it would be
unrealistic to expect it to produce this figure without considerable
recommissioning, but it gives an indication of the specification and performance
this Elan was capable of.
The car is being offered as a
non-runner. We have not attempted to start it due to the length of time it has
been off the road. However, there appears to be no obvious reason why, following
a thorough mechanical inspection and recommissioning, including fresh fuel and a
new battery, it should not be returned to running
condition.
A particularly extensive
collection of spare parts accompanies the car, spread across two pallets, making
this an unusually comprehensive package for the prospective competitor or
enthusiast. With its competition history, long-term ownership, extensive
documentation and substantial quantity of spares, this Lotus Elan represents an
exciting opportunity for recommissioning and return to the hillclimb
stage.
Viewing is strongly
recommended, particularly given the car's long period off the
road.
