First registered in January 1972, this
well-specified example is accompanied by a substantial collection of invoices
dating back to 1986, documenting regular maintenance and ongoing improvement
throughout its life. Notably, the car underwent a comprehensive bodywork
restoration in 1988, during which new front wings, rear wing sections and door
skins were fitted. It was also at this time that the full-length sunroof was
installed.
Thirteen previous MOT certificates indicate
that the MGB has covered approximately 36,000 miles since 1996. Further
investment has been made over the years, including around £2,500 spent in 2005
on castle section, jacking point and sill repairs. Other notable work includes a
new propshaft in 2008, new rear leaf springs in 2002, a reconditioned overdrive
unit and new clutch kit in 2001, and a new Peco exhaust system together with
rear shock absorbers and wishbone bushes in 2000. In 2018 the car was Waxoyl
treated underneath and fitted with a new radiator and clutch slave
cylinder.
More
recently, in 2022, the MG received extensive recommissioning work including new
front brake discs and pads, caliper seals, brake hoses, rear wheel cylinders and
brake shoes, steering rack gaiters, wiper blades, fuse box, overdrive switch,
oil and filter, a full carpet set and replacement seat covers. The
Minilite-style alloy wheels were also fitted in more recent years and complement
the car's sporting appearance.
The car was driven to the sale and has been
starting promptly for the photography and video process, displaying a healthy
60psi oil pressure when observed on site. Reassuringly, it is accompanied by a
pleasing quantity of invoices documenting maintenance and repairs carried out
over many years, reflecting consistent ownership and upkeep.
The paperwork includes the V5C, 13
previous MOT certificates and a substantial file of invoices. Offering sensible
upgrades, extensive history and evidence of significant expenditure over many
years, this appears to be a sound driver-quality MGB GT ready to be enjoyed by
its next enthusiast owner.
